K-12 Art Education Grants Currently Available

Here are this week’s highlighted foundations and grants. This week’s focus? K-12 art education grants!

1) Ezra Jack Keats Foundation: Mini-Grant Program
  • The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation offers mini-grants to public schools, public libraries, and public preschool programs in the United States and its territories. 
  • Grants are provided for creative and innovative projects that provide an enriched learning experience either supporting or extending the basic curriculum. 
  • All eligible applicants must complete an online application.
  • Please note: grants are not provided for general operations or administrative costs, salaries, or fees. Private schools, parochial schools, and charter schools are not eligible to apply.
  • Grants of up to $500 are provided
  • Deadline: March 31st (annually)
2) Harry Chapin Foundation
  • The Harry Chapin Foundation's mission is to support nonprofit organizations that have proven their ability to dramatically improve the lives of people by helping them to become self-sufficient. Types of support include: project support, general operations support, and challenge and matching grants. 
  • The Foundation focuses its funding on the following areas:
    • arts-in-education programs
    • community education programs
    • agricultural and environmental programs
  • All applications should be submitted as a brief written proposal to the Foundation's executive director, Leslie Ramme, or using the application form provided on the Foundation's website.
  • Grants awarded range from $300 - $10,000. 
  • Deadline: None, as requests are reviewed three times per year.
3) P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children's Education
  • The P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children's Education promotes integration of the arts into school curricula. There is a high degree of focus on addressing children who learn differently. 
  • The P. Buckley Moss Teacher Grant program provides grants to pre-K-12 teachers to be used for art supplies. The purpose of the program is to support new or evolving programs that integrate the arts into education in the school classroom setting. 
  • Eligible recipients will develop and implement a “hands-on” visual art learning tool. Examples of visual art include: drawing, painting, sculpting, ceramics, architecture, printmaking, and photography.
  • All eligible applicants must complete and submit an application. The form can be found on the Foundation's website.
  • Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded.
  • Deadline: Applications may be submitted from July 1st through September 30th (annually) 
4) Windgate Charitable Foundation
  • The Windgate Charitable Foundation funds programs throughout the United States, with an emphasis on the central region of the country. The Foundation places some focus on organizations in northwest Arkansas.
  • Areas of interest include:
    • significant educational programs in contemporary craft and visual arts
    • art history preservation efforts
    • K-12 and higher educational institutions for the development and support of the arts
    • scholarships and effective instructional programs
    • programs for disadvantaged children in Arkansas
  • Eligible applicants interested in applying must complete an online initial inquiry form. After receiving an invitation to apply, an online application must be completed and submitted.
  • Please note: the Foundation is more likely to be interested in projects that lack other major sponsors or donor prospects. The Foundation also prefers projects of its own initiative rather than funding unsolicited grants. 
  • Program support is strongly preferred over capital funds. Priority is also given to matching fund requests.
  • The Windgate Foundation does not list the amount of individual awards but has provided over $855 million in grants since 1993
  • Deadline: None for initial inquiries / March 1st, July 1st, and October 1st (annually) for invited applications
